The Arapaima is one of the largest fish of the modern world and a living fossil. Arapaima prey entirely on other smaller fish, so they have no interest in humans. As such, it is commonplace to see them swimming around in the island's various bodies of freshwater, consuming fish and lazily going about their lives. Despite their size, they have high health and extremely powerful armor, meaning most predators simply leave them alone, save for those specifically adapted to taking them down. The species on the ark seems to be a bit territorial, so be careful drawing near them. Arapaima are capable of delivering a devastating headbutt, moving surprisingly fast for their size in doing so. Be warned, as the sheer strength of the bony head on this living missile is capable of not also killing a human, but knocking the wind clear out of an unprepared survivor (it can knock out a player in a single headbutt if you're not careful!). While this can cause normal dinosaurs to feel fatigued (torpid), it can cause worse effects to humans. A bad hit from an Arapaima can cause one's heart to beat irregularly, causing them to become short of breath for a long time as their heart slowly heals. Be careful around arapaima if you go by just yourself and no creature aid. However, when tamed they are great early-game aquatic mounts for the inner rivers, or ocean if you get lucky enough to find one in a river that connects to the sea. They also make excellent pond fish, as their beauty and size can relax those who view them. Lastly- Arapaima meat is extremely tasty- all of it is considered of “prime” quality. The fish are also extremely easy to breed, meaning one can create an arapaima farm and quickly farm large amounts of prime fish meat with ease, should they wish!

Arapaima is incredibly armored, only taking about 5% of incoming damage.
Despite this incredibly armored body, it takes increase damage from attacks that ignore armor. It also has no defense against Spinosaurus's attacks.
Arapaima are immune to bleed, electrocution, and venom.
Arapaima is capable of being passive-tamed at lvl 12, and when approached will initially act aggressive, trying to headbutt you to knock you out. However, it will quickly flee if damaged even slightly or if it can't reach you quick enough.
Arapaima can be carried via fish baskets.
- Similar to the Coelacanth, the Arapaima is a living fossil. The genus has been on the planet since the Miocene epoch.
- Although easily recognizable and one of the largest freshwater fish alive today, the arapaima is shockingly shrouded in mystery outside of aquariums. It is unknown exactly how many arapaima individuals exist, how drastically humans have affected them from a conservation standpoint, and even how many species of them are out there (only 2 species are confirmed and scientists acknowledge there could easily be more existing in the Amazon Basin).
