Synopsis
The Barbary Lion is a lion subspecies commonly found in grasslands and savannah environments around the arks. Although lions are normally pride hunters, Barbary Lions are rarely found with others of their species. This lion has seemingly evolved to be a solo hunter, becoming larger and more fearsome to stand out against the other smaller predators on the ARKs. Even females have been noted posessing large, luxurious manes. However, this is not unheard of. There were populations of lionesses in Africa which sported the manes of males. This caused them to appear like a male to enemies and the females often acted like males as well, to help protect the pride. One can only assume that something similar has happened with the Barbary Lion, to allow both sexes the equal chance of survival. Barbary Lions are the pinnacle of a “Lion's Courage”. Although a fairly small predator, it is capable of entering a couragous rage-state in order to stand up to more dangerous enemies. Add with the fact this cunning feline can occasionally target vital areas for increased damage, and the traditional dirty fighting of any feline, and one has a powerful small-sized mount than can punch in far above its weight class!
