Hydrarchos is a fictional species of mammal in Additional Creatures.
Synopsis
A large whale, similar in size and in relation to Basilosaurus, "Hydrarchos", as it is called, is a much more aggressive predator. While definately powerful, it appears Hydrarchos is a specialist predator of the ocean. While the ocean is rich in life, it appears Hydrarchos has evolved specialized teeth. These teeth are sharp, large, and broad- like the heads of swords. These teeth are evolved for biting into large, soft flesh- in other words, blubbery creatures. Whales, Plesiosaurs, Mosasaurs- pinnipeds, even. These vicious teeth sink into the fatty hides of these creatures and cause profuse damage and bleeding, making a quick kill and protein, calorie-rich feast for Hydrarchos. This makes Hydrarchos excellent for dealing with some of the water's more tanky predators. To a survivor, this makes Hydrarchos an excellent Tankbuster and a key creature against dealing with enemy Basilosaurus, or other deep-sea creatures with a bit of fat to absorb blows...

Notes/Trivia
- Hydrarchos means "Hydra Master". "Hydrarchos" as a taxon was a hoax, being the supposed remains of a sea serpent fabricated together with several basilosaurus skeletons.
- The Hydrarchos was claimed to have sexual dimorphism during development, but this has not come to pass.
