Herrerasaurus is a medium-sized theropod found on the ARKs. Although similar in appearance to a raptor, it is from a much more primitive family of dinosaur: one of the first to exist, actually. This sly dinosaur is a dangerous opponent, preferring hit-and-run tactics with its trademark venom. Despite it's size, this is actually why survivors both early on and more advanced seek out Herrerasaurus. Although similar in size to Utahraptor prime, it is both more agile and stronger. Yet this venomous bite is why tribes truly seek it out, providing a way to deal with most tank-like tames which are immune to bleeding or flame! Furthermore, this venom can be gathered and then, when allowed to ferment, becomes a usable substitute for narcotic drugs.

- Herrerasaurus is notable for being a Triassic dinosaur, which is quite a unique time period to be from in ARK considering the only unique animal in the base game from the Triassic is Lystrosaurus.
- Herrerasaurus is from a very odd clade of dinosaurs known as Herrerasaurs. They were some of the first dinosaurs ever and thrived early on in the dinosaurs' appearance in the Triassic, but began to decline once theropod groups like Coelophysids began to appear. Their place in the dinosaur family tree is also quite ambiguous, with some saying they're early theropods while others argue they could potentially be a completely different offshoot that's closer related to sauropods. Regardless, the group became extinct during the Triassic-Jurassic Mass Extinction 200 million years ago and left behind no descendants.
- Herrerasaurus means "Herrera's Lizard" after the argentinian rancher that discovered it.
- The Herrerasaurus is the ambassador of the Venom debuff, being the first creature to possess it.
